講題內容摘要:

Publish or perish’ is a common saying or ideology in the academic world. Most universities around the globe use the quantity and quality of publications as a main benchmark for academic success and the basis for deciding whether to offer a professoriate staff member a tenured position. For universities themselves, the number of publications and citations of research results of their academic staff is a crucial consideration in determining their international rankings. Academic publishing is thus a high-stake undertaking and central to the academia. While research publications in English were initially considered very much an Anglophone-centric activity, increasingly more non-native academics have published prolifically in English on various international platforms. Many others, however, may still find it rather challenging and indeed stressful in scholarly publications (Braine, 2005).

In this talk, I will review the publication journey of my three most recent publications in SSCI journals, among which two were single-authored. I will highlight relevant aspects which I think have helped increase the chance of publication. How I addressed the reviewers’ comments and what I learnt from the mistakes made will also be shared with the participants.
