SDGs Literature Education: National Museum of Taiwan Literature Tour

On 21 March 2026, the English Department, in collaboration with the Four-Year College Student Association, organized a one-day field trip to Tainan, during which students visited the National Museum of Taiwan Literature (台灣文學館), Anping (安平), and Yuguang Island (漁光島). This trip aimed to encourage students to engage with and explore Taiwanese culture.

At the National Museum of Taiwan Literature, the focus was on two exhibitions: the long-term exhibition The Power of Literature: Writing OUR TAIWAN and the special exhibition Wandering Words, Free Spirits: Travel Literature. Students strolled through galleries in the historic building, first constructed in 1916 and later expanded with a modern extension. Students were able to experience a blend of past and present architecture. Guided by professional curators, students journeyed through time to learn about the development of Taiwanese literature, reflecting the island’s culture, daily life, and society.

In the afternoon, students explored Anping Old Street and Anping Fort. Anping was one of the earliest developed areas in Taiwan. With its strong connection to maritime and pioneering culture, Anping is home to the Kaitai Tianhou (Mazu) Temple, the oldest temple dedicated to the Chinese goddess Mazu in Taiwan. The town is also known as the origin of Sword Lions, local guardians of households. As students walked through the old streets, they immersed themselves in the historic atmosphere and sampled local delicacies such as shrimp rolls and soybean pudding.

The trip concluded with a visit to Yuguang Island, where students strolled leisurely along the beach, enjoying the sparkling waves, warm sunshine, and soft sand underfoot. This one-day excursion allowed students to experience firsthand how history, daily life, and natural scenery are intertwined, while deepening their understanding of and connection to the principles of the SDGs.
